The benefits of an active social life on overall health cannot be overstated and is the reason why we make our Leisure and Recreation program a large priority at Queens Avenue, and why we run many programs is to ensure, within our building.
It is also the reason why we have such a strong community outreach program. Our leisure program does wonders to create a strong sense of community within our building, and recognizing the benefits of this community spirit to our residents, our Activities Coordinator puts special effort into creating bonds with the greater Oakville community.
Specifically, our coordinator focuses on volunteer opportunities and getting involved in charity organizations in the community. Not only does this help residents stay active and create new friendships, but by giving back to the community, our residents are giving to themselves too. We believe this has a profound effect on their mood, self-worth and general wellbeing, making it a win-win situation for everyone involved.
Well known in the community for its work, Queens Avenue Retirement Residence tries to take up worthy causes as often as possible.
Some of the groups who we regularly support are the Oakville chapter of the Canadian Cancer Society, the Oakville United Way and the Oakville Food Bank.
In addition to our local initiatives, we have also worked with organizations such as the Canadian Red Cross and World Vision to support those affected by natural disasters across the globe, including the 2011 Japan Earthquake and Tsunami.
